Yeah so Disney really is coming for everyone's pockets. I know folks will scream "originality is dead" but...looking at how well Disney (and others) have done with some of these reimagined and expanded properties well...looks like the audiences love them. In the trailer they even point out "From the studio that brought you Beauty and the Beast and The Jungle Book", two films that made around a billion dollars each (The Jungle Book actually fell just short of a billion).
It's also not lost on me that in this short teaser we see more black faces than I can ever remember in the original Nutcracker story. Also, did you catch glimpses of Misty Copeland as the lead ballerina? I forgot she was cast in this until I saw her in the teaser.
Say what you want but if this film follows in the footsteps of Beauty and the Beast and The Jungle Book, Disney is looking at yet another billion dollar, well reviewed movie on their hands.
